Bimini – Exploring the Wreck Sapona – A Bimini Snorkeling Adventure
Travel to the mystical SS Sapona, located just three miles south of Bimini, where it ran aground more than 80 years ago.
Built in 1904, the Sapona was a 270-foot vessel used as a rum-runner between the Bahamas and Florida during Prohibition, until it sank during the hurricane of 1926.
Perfect for snorkeling -- as more than half of the ship is visible above water -- the Sapona is riddled with unusual holes and portholes to explore, thanks to its use as target practice during World War II.
Let your imagination run wild as you swim and snorkel through this legendary vessel, which now serves as a home to vibrant tropical fish and sea creatures.
